Recycle Day

Recycle Day is organised by Care For Hedland with the help of Toxfree and PTES. Skip bins for paper/cardboard, hard plastics and glass, as well as a bag for aluminium cans, are available for two hours from 8am until 10am on the second Saturday of every month.

Two locations: South Hedland shopping centre carpark AND Port Hedland Turf Club.

All recycling must be clean with NO FOOD RESIDUE and correctly sorted. Talk to our volunteers on the day if you aren’t sure of what is accepted and pick up a free recycling guide!

Adopt-A-Spot Clean Up

Join us at a roadside clean up and help make Hedland shine! Adopt-A-Spot is an initiative run by Keep Australia Beautiful which is on the third and fourth Saturday of every month.

All clean ups start at 7am and finish at 8:30am. It is recommended that volunteers wear protective clothing, a hat and sunscreen, closed-in shoes, and bring a water bottle! Children welcome!

 

Third Saturday of month: Hamilton Road

Fourth Saturday of month: Wilson Street (Port-South highway)

Adopt-A-Spot Clean Up

Adopt-A-Spot clean ups run on the third and fourth Saturday of every month. Help out at Hamilton road on the third Saturday of February to beautify the town and make a difference to our environment!

7am-8:30am. Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle!

Clean Up Australia Day

Join Care For Hedland to help clean up around town! You will be part of a national movement helping to make a difference to our great Aussie environment. It is recommended that volunteers wear protective clothing, a hat and sunscreen, closed-in shoes, and bring a water bottle! Children welcome!

We will be holding FOUR clean ups over the long weekend.

Saturday 2nd March: roadside opposite Port Hedland shopping centre

Sunday 3rd March: Scadden Road South Hedland, Pretty Pool Beach and Cemetery Beach.

All clean ups run from 7am until 9am and there will be a sausage sizzle at 8:45am at Cemetery Beach on Sunday 3rd March!

End of Season Volunteer Dinner 🐢

2018-19 has been another massive season for turtle monitoring and we will be celebrating with dinner, presentations and awards for our top volunteers! If you’ve volunteered over the season, RSVP to Jo at coordinator@careforhedland.org.au and join us for our end of season dinner!

Turtle Training Weekend

Care For Hedland will be holding its annual turtle training weekend on the 27th and 28th October, to prepare Hedland residents for Flatbacks who nest on our beaches! The two sessions are separate and very different, so please try to attend both! 

All welcome to attend, including children. Training is free!

Hear from this season’s turtle coordinators and learn about the plight of our Flatback turtles, what the monitoring program involves and what to expect as a turtle volunteer! Turtle merchandise and volunteer shirts available for purchase on the day.

Morning track monitoring training led by the morning turtle coordinator, followed by breakfast at the Ibis Styles Hotel

Staircase to the Moon markets

Watch the amazing phenomenon of the Staircase to the Moon each month while perusing local wares at the nearby markets. One of Port Hedland’s biggest tourist attractions happens every month between April and October – not to be missed! See Care For Hedland’s stall for turtle merchandise and plenty of goodies from 5-8pm. The markets are held at Discovery Parks, on Taylor Street Port Hedland.
